Ukraine has announced the start of mass production for a new domestically developed defensive UAV to strengthen its aerial protection systems. The first three producers have begun production, with 11 more getting ready to establish assembly lines, Ukrainian military officials stated on Friday.

'Octopus' Technology Proven in Combat Situations

The drones will be based on a nationally created system called “Octopus” engineered to neutralize Iranian-made drones. This technology underwent testing in combat and proved effective “during nighttime, under jamming and at low altitudes,” officials confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors each day.

Latest Attack on the Capital Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president characterized Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “intentional, calculated and brutal” after six people were killed and many others wounded in a wave of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Alert systems sounded in Kyiv shortly after 12 AM this past Friday, with enemy UAVs soon detected overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

The president reported the country was hit by 430 drones and 18 missiles. Those killed were at home in an apartment building on the capital's left bank when it was hit. Numerous of additional structures sustained damage, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

International Protest Following Diplomatic Compound Damage

Azerbaijan said it delivered a formal objection to the Russian ambassador this past Friday following the destruction at its diplomatic compound. The blast from a Moscow's missile demolished a section of the embassy’s perimeter wall and resulted in significant destruction to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry stated. There were no personnel injured, and an official representative said the diplomatic mission in Ukraine was maintaining operations.

Moscow's Aerial Bomb Production Sees Major Expansion

Moscow plans to manufacture as many as 120,000 glide bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official said, among them 500 of an innovative, extended-range model that is capable of targeting additional urban centers. Moscow's military have been launching hundreds of glide bombs per day, with the previous month's average daily usage being approximately 170, based on official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Target Russian Oil Facilities

Moscow's maritime terminal of the port city temporarily suspended oil exports on Friday – equivalent to two percent of global supply – after a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Ukraine’s general staff said its military had fired Neptune cruise missiles and deployed multiple kinds of strike drones in the assault against Novorossiysk “within the framework of operations to reduce the strategic capabilities of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukraine separately targeted a processing plant in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in nearby Engels during the night.

International Restrictions Impact Moscow's Energy Company

Russia’s second-largest oil producer Lukoil said this past Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its foreign assets after recent sanctions from the UK and the US and failure of an agreement with commodity trader Gunvor. “Final arrangements will be announced once conclusive negotiations are completed and the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained,” the company stated.

Zelenskyy Plans Diplomatic Trip to Spain

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, next Tuesday to meet with lawmakers following his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. The Ukrainian president will convene with deputies from all houses of the legislature throughout his stay, an official announcement said.
