Zelenskyy commented, "We can already see that Moscow is scrambling to restart conversations immediately after it hears about cruise missiles." This statement referred to earlier musings about supplying long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and International Reactions

An ex- American diplomat, Dan Fried, commented, "The Russian leader is attempting to disrupt the momentum toward greater sanctions on Russia." He added, "The outcome will become clear tomorrow, but the chances of moving toward a ceasefire by pressuring Russia to get serious seem to have diminished."

This situation followed the US president had in recent days been strengthening his language toward Russia until Thursday's call with the Russian president, which the Kremlin characterized as "highly frank and trustful."

EU Energy Sanctions and Market Impact

EU authorities have established a mandate for fuel suppliers into the European Union to demonstrate their products are not made from Russian oil, as stated in a document published on Thursday. This measure is included in the EU's forthcoming ban on imports of refined products processed from Russian petroleum, which forms part of its 18th sanctions package against Russia over its military actions in Ukraine.

Market analysts observed that investment activity appeared to be considering the potential reduction of India's imports of Russian oil. Some Indian refiners are preparing to cut Russian oil imports, with expectations of a phased decrease, as reported by sources familiar with the situation.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a major buyer of Russian oil," said Tony Sycamore, noting that crude values were stable on the trading day.

Military Developments and Energy Strikes

A massive Moscow's drone and missile assault hit energy infrastructure in eastern Ukraine on the same day, causing disruptions in eight regions. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russia deployed hundreds of unmanned vehicles and many of projectiles, along with glide bombs.

Kallas announced a "plan" to prepare for potential conflict by 2030, featuring a novel anti-drone system to be completely functional by the 2027 deadline.

The proposed system, called the "EU defensive program," is expected to start operations initially by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. Brussels hopes to obtain the backing of EU leaders at a summit in the coming days.
