Sovereign to Broadcast Intimate Address on Illness in Nationwide Address

His Majesty has taped a first-hand account concerning his experience with cancer, set to air as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer drive, run by medical research organisations and Channel 4.

Official sources stated the King would discuss his "recovery journey" as a individual battling cancer, in a video message on Friday evening at the evening slot.

The recording, filmed within a royal residence recently, will stress the critical nature of preventative health checks to increase the likelihood more people diagnose the disease at an initial point.

This constitutes a rare update on the wellbeing of the King, who has been undergoing regular treatment since the news was shared in early last year. However, it is believed doubtful the King will identify his particular diagnosis.

Fundraising Core Mission

The annual charity campaign each year collects money for scientific studies and therapies and encourages people to get screenings to boost the probability of an early diagnosis.

The King's public discussion about his condition, and managing the disease, has been designed to increase understanding and to encourage more people to get tested - and this will be escalated with this unusual royal involvement.

To date the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to continue his schedule, preserving a hectic timetable alongside his ongoing course of treatment, and he appears not to have wanted to be overshadowed by his illness.

The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, undertaking several international tours, including to Italy and Canada, and receiving the largest volume of foreign dignitaries to the UK for a generation, which included the German president recently.

The Televised Special Show

Friday evening's awareness show on Channel 4, presented by celebrities like Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will appeal to people not to be frightened of getting cancer checks.

Each presenter have been personally touched by cancer - one host revealed last month she had undergone surgery for a tumour, while Clare Balding was treated for the illness in the past. Presenter Hills has previously discussed his father, who had a diagnosis and then later blood cancer.

The broadcast will reach out to the approximate 9m people in the UK who charities says are not compliant with national health programmes, with an website to let people check if they are qualified for screenings for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.

In an attempt to demystify health tests and demonstrate the importance of early diagnosis there will be a real-time transmission from hospital departments at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.

"I want to remove the anxiety out of preventative tests and prove all people that they are not on their own in this," said one of the hosts.

The Landscape of Health Checks

Currently in the UK, there are three publicly available checks - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - offered to eligible individuals.

A recently launched lung cancer screening programme is also being slowly rolled out for individuals at high risk of developing the disease, primarily aimed at people of a certain age, who have a smoking history or used to.

Male patients may enquire about prostate screenings, but there is no national programme currently available.

Charitable Impact

The Stand Up to Cancer initiative, which has raised a significant sum since 2012, is supporting 73 research studies with 13,000 patients.

The Monarch, in a statement for attendees at a event for cancer charities in earlier this year, had spoken of acknowledging the "daunting and at times frightening reality" for those diagnosed and their families.

But he said his first-hand encounter of managing cancer had revealed that "the darkest moments of disease can be illuminated by the support of carers," as he praised those who supported those receiving treatment.

Royal representatives has not made public the specific type of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has received. The King's cancer was detected after he had had a routine operation.
