Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with results so bad.”

He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
