Move Over, Rupert Murdoch: Is Lord Rothermere Set to Become the UK's Most Powerful Media Tycoon?
Waiting two decades for another chance to snaffle a coveted business acquisition is a luxury not available to many executives. The Harmsworth dynasty, though, adopts a more patient approach to timing.
Whereas the majority of corporate boards create five-year plans, the family, having compiled a formidable media conglomerate over more than a century, are accustomed to thinking in terms of generations.
A Much-Anticipated Opportunity
It was in the summer of 2004 that Jonathan Harold Esmond Vere Harmsworth, the distinguished proprietor of the Daily Mail, was unsuccessful in his attempt to purchase the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph.

Political Concerns
With British politics seemingly sliding to the conservative side, there are inevitable political concerns about combining the Mail and Telegraph at a time when each have been increasing coverage of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.
