Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
