Citizens have come together throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast on Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the terms of the agreement.

A prominent Palestinian official involved in the discussions revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have yet to deliver any real breakthrough," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future administration of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square previously, young Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - explained: "No place appears as home now and until each abducted person return none of us will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Outside the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their support for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Protester a participant remarked: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that about 70% of Israelis prefer the conflict to conclude in as payment for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were documented in the early hours of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the east side area of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the dusk comes, the anxiety appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.

"We are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, holding each other, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had received the remains of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of that area said another two victims had been brought there. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking aid to the south region, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
