Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
