A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
